‘You’re going to grab that damaged box’: Former Target worker shares why you should always go for the damaged box in the store

A former Target worker has shared some valuable tips to help you save money while shopping at Target, making it even cheaper than Walmart!

TikTok creator Kaitlynd (@reddnea) posted a video on April 12 that has garnered over 569,400 views, offering several “money-saving hacks at Target.”

Kaitlynd opens the video by saying, “I used to work at Target, and here’s how you’re gonna save money while you’re shopping.” Her first tip is to always pick up a damaged box rather than a perfect one.

“When you see a damaged box, you might think, ‘I don’t want that. I want a nice one from the back.’ But don’t do that. Grab that damaged box, walk up to the register, and you’ll get 10 percent off because the box is ‘damaged,’ even if the item inside is perfectly fine.”

Next, Kaitlynd highlights Target’s price matching policy, asking, “Are we forgetting that Target has price matching?”

She explains, “Find the website that shows a lower price, show it to the cashier, and they’ll match it for you. You can also do this up to 14 days after your purchase. So if you find a better deal later, take it to the store or contact support, and they’ll refund you the difference.”

Target’s official website supports Kaitlynd’s tips, providing guidelines for price matching that align with her advice.

Kaitlynd then talks about the Red Card, which can be applied for as either a credit card or a debit card. This program has recently been updated and renamed the Target Circle Card.

According to a USA Today article, “The Target Circle 360 membership offers same-day delivery on orders over $35 and free two-day delivery.”

Brian Cornell, Target’s CEO, says, “Target has always focused on building for the long term, investing in what makes our business unique and delivering a great guest experience. We’re making strategic investments to elevate this experience even further, and these plans will help fuel our growth.”

People who watched Kaitlynd’s video enthusiastically supported her love for Target.

One commenter shared, “I bought Olipops with dents in them, and the cashier thanked me for taking the damaged ones and gave me a discount on all of them.”

Kaitlynd replied, “Nobody knows about the damage discount! I always pick the beat-up packaging now LOL.”

Another viewer remarked, “I was shocked to realize that Target is often cheaper for me with the Circle and Red Card than Walmart,” echoing Kaitlynd’s point about Target being more affordable.

Someone else wondered, “What if the cashier doesn’t want to price match?”

Kaitlynd responded, “They have to—it’s their policy! Show them the policy or ask someone else!”
