Stacy London Now Identifies as a Lesbian: ‘There Aren’t Enough of Us’

Stacy London didn’t “say gay” for ages, but now she calls herself a late-in-life lesbian.

The What Not to Wear alum has been with her partner Cat Yezbak since 2018, making the relationship public on New Year’s Eve 2019 with a cheeky Instagram post. “So I used to date men. Now I date her,” she wrote. London, now 55, has been living her truth ever since.

At a recent American Ballet Theatre premiere in New York City, London opened up to Us Weekly, revealing how she’s finally unapologetic about her sexuality.

“I came out at 48. I love the fact that people can say the words pansexual, bisexual and have it be a spectrum,” she shared. “In the ’50s and ’60s, there was none of that. When I was growing up, there were none of those words that made people feel seen.”

She credits the younger generations, especially Gen Z, for breaking societal norms and allowing people to live freely and authentically. “You have Gen Z breaking all the systemic rules and me, Gen X, breathing a sigh of relief that we thought we had to be straight and perfect,” she quipped. “It was only, ‘Be like a duck, calm where everyone can see and then flail underneath.’ Now I feel like we can own our identities in a universal way without fear and without shame.”

Her relationship with Yezbek has been under the public eye ever since. The couple has been spotted on numerous occasions, including a double date with actress Sophia Bush and soccer star Ashlyn Harris. Earlier this month, London and Yezbak were also seen cheering together at a Gotham FC match.

London believes that removing fear and shame from our decisions leaves room for love. “There’s a lot of people in this country who don’t understand that we are most bound by fear and shame when making all of our decisions, and if you take those out of the equation, there’s a lot of love there,” she asserted.

When it comes to defining her sexuality, London admits it’s been an evolving journey. However, she’s now comfortable claiming her space on the spectrum. “I feel like I want to say lesbian because there aren’t enough of us,” she explained. “It’s not just about one type of lesbian culture. I want people to see the spectrum, and so I identify as such.”

And what about the future of her relationship with Yezbek? According to London, a wedding might just be on the horizon. “Maybe!” she teased. “We have talked about it, we’ll see.”

Clearly, Stacy London is living her best life, making a bold statement and loving every moment of it. Her journey serves as an inspiration for many who are still finding the courage to live their truths. So cheers to Stacy for her bravery, honesty, and unapologetic fierceness!
