A massive RV explosion in Massachusetts has left three men severely injured, igniting one victim and resulting in their hospitalization on Tuesday afternoon, as confirmed by local authorities and witnesses.

Firefighters rushed to the scene on Walker Road in Peabody, Essex County, following multiple 911 calls reporting the blast, a dispatcher from the Peabody Fire Department relayed. Peabody is situated approximately two miles northwest of Salem.

Upon arrival, Peabody Fire Chief Jay Dowling reported that crews found the RV completely engulfed in flames. They discovered three conscious victims at the scene and promptly extinguished the fire.

Two of the victims, both men in their 40s and 70s, were airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for burn treatment. Another man in his 20s was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Burlington, which is around 17 miles west.

The young man, who sustained burns to his legs, has since been released after treatment. However, his two relatives remain in stable condition in the ICU, as per Chief Dowling’s updates on Wednesday.

Cause of Peabody RV Explosion Under Investigation

According to Chief Dowling, there is no suspicion of foul play regarding the fire. The cause and origin of the explosion were still under investigation by the department in conjunction with the fire marshal’s office as of Wednesday. Officials were also looking into reports suggesting that the men were working on the RV when it exploded.

Explosion ‘Rocked the Entire Neighborhood’

Neighbors reported that a grandfather, his son, and grandson were prepping an RV for a Grand Canyon trip when the sudden explosion shook the entire neighborhood, according to WBZ-TV. Ring doorbell footage captured the explosion, as well as a man running out of the RV ablaze before rolling on the ground to extinguish the flames.

“We heard a big explosion,” neighbor John O’Donnell told the outlet. “I looked out the window and saw a column of smoke rising skyward. Flames were visible over the house across the street, so I ran out to find the RV on fire.”
