Meet the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team Headed to the Paris Olympics

Simone Biles is once again leading a Team USA squad!

Team USA is bringing their best to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics!

Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera have secured their spots on the U.S. women’s Olympics gymnastics team.

The five gymnasts were selected on Sunday, June 30, after the second and final day of the women’s U.S. Olympic gymnastics team trials in Minneapolis. The two traveling replacement athletes were named as Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong.

For the Tokyo Games, gymnastics teams included four members due to a 2015 decision from the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) attempting to tighten the competitive gap for smaller countries.

But for the Paris Olympics, teams will again compete with five members — with up to three individual spots available for countries that don’t win a team quota.

The women’s gymnastics teams will compete across four events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. There will also be individual and all-around medals awarded.

For the Tokyo Olympics, Team USA included Biles, Lee, Chiles and Grace McCallum, along with Carey and MyKayla Skinner competing as individuals.

The U.S. women dominated much of their competition in Japan, earning gold medals in the all-around and floor exercise events, as well as a silver medal in the team category.

But their performances were temporarily thrown into disarray when Biles had to withdraw from most events at the time, citing her mental health and issues with the “twisties.”

Speaking with reporters on Sunday, Biles and Lee both said they see their trip to Paris, with largely the same team as in Tokyo, as offering a “redemption tour.”

Biles’ teammate from the Rio Olympics Laurie Hernandez previously said that the four-time Olympic gold medalist “really is one of the best. You can count on her.”

“You know you’re going to watch greatness when her name pops up,” Hernandez said.
