Martin Mull, the actor who brought joy to many through his remarkable performances on shows like “Arrested Development,” “Roseanne,” and “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” has passed away at the age of 80.

His daughter, Maggie Mull, shared the news on Instagram, saying, “I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness.”

She added, “He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny.”

“My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously,” she continued.

Martin Mull’s acting career spanned nearly 50 years. He played the memorable twins Barth and Garth Gimble on the satirical soap opera “Mary Hartman,” and was equally unforgettable as Monty, a recently deceased man, haunting Gina Rodriguez in the ABC series “Not Dead Yet.” Additionally, he was known for his roles as Principal Willard Kraft on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” as Roseanne Connor’s boss Leon Carp on “Roseanne,” and as pharmacist Russell on “Two and a Half Men.”

In “Arrested Development,” his portrayal of the Bluth family’s private investigator, Gene Parmesan, brought delight, especially to Lucille Bluth, played by the late Jessica Walter. He reprised this beloved role when the show was rebooted by Netflix.

In 2016, Mull was recognized with an Emmy nomination for his role as political aide Bob Bradley on HBO’s “Veep.”

His notable film appearances included roles in the 1983 film “Mr. Mom,” the 1985 classic “Clue,” 1993’s “Mrs. Doubtfire,” 1996’s holiday favorite “Jingle All the Way,” and the 2010 rom-com “Killers.”
