Jimmy Carter’s Heartbreaking Plan Revealed Before Rosalynn’s Death

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter

Jimmy Carter, the former president of the United States, was deeply committed to taking care of his wife Rosalynn until the very end. Despite his declining health, Jimmy believed he would outlive Rosalynn and dedicated himself to protecting her.

Sadly, Rosalynn passed away on November 19, mere days after joining her husband in hospice care. She died at their home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 96. Rosalynn had served as the First Lady between 1977 and 1981 and continued to make a difference through her humanitarian work at the Carter Center.

Just a week before her death, Rosalynn had been diagnosed with dementia. Her health quickly deteriorated after she contracted an infection that could not be treated with antibiotics. Jimmy, seated in his wheelchair by her side, had to make the heartbreaking decision to ask others to leave the room so he could have some alone time with his beloved wife.

Towards the end of Saturday evening, Jimmy was moved into his own hospice bed, placed next to Rosalynn’s. This allowed the couple, who had been married for 77 years, to communicate with each other. Tragically, by Sunday morning, Rosalynn had lost the ability to speak, and later that day, she peacefully passed away.

Nobody feels the pain of Rosalynn’s passing more acutely than Jimmy, who considers her his equal partner in all his achievements. However, he can find solace in knowing that he was there for her until the end, as he had always intended.

Jimmy’s son, Chip Carter, revealed that his father had often expressed his desire to outlive Rosalynn and protect her. Over the past nine months, Jimmy began to doubt whether he would be able to fulfill this wish, which deeply upset him. Nevertheless, he held on and received praise from his family for the dedicated care he provided to Rosalynn.

Now 99 years old, Jimmy himself has faced many health challenges in recent years. He entered hospice care in February after several short hospital stays. His family, friends, and well-wishers offer their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Rosalynn Carter. The Carter family is in our hearts.
