Jenni Rivera’s 5 Kids Grow Emotional During Her Posthumous Walk of Fame Star Ceremony: ‘Such an Honor’

Jenni Rivera has finally received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On Thursday, June 27, friends and family of the late Mexican singer gathered to celebrate the unveiling of her star.

During the ceremony, fellow Mexican icon Gloria Trevi served as a guest speaker and dedicated kind words to the “No Llega El Olvido” singer.

Rivera’s children Jacqie, Johnny, Chiquis, Jenicka, and Michael were also present at the ceremony to accept the star on her behalf — and each dedicated a speech to their mother.

Chiquis, 39, her eldest child, went first and grew emotional as she said it was “such an honor to be the daughter of such an amazing woman.”

“More than anything, being the daughter of a woman who has left her footprint on this earth and in so many people’s hearts. Even if it has been almost 12 years, she is still living and I see her in my siblings, I see her in all of you guys,” she told the crowd. “My mother was a woman that did not give up and did not take no for an answer. Her tenacity, her perseverance, her courage, still lives on in so many of us.”

Jenicka, 26, recalled sitting with her mom in the car as she dreamed of the day she would have her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“I thought it was impossible to get it after she passed away but God has a beautiful way of proving people wrong,” she said. “My mother was a praying, powerful, intentional and very intimidating woman — and to this day she is.”

“I’m so blessed to call her mom and to be able to say that she did that s—, even if I wish she was here to do it, it’s even cooler to say that she got it from heaven,” she added. “This moment right here is proof that your dreams can come true no matter the circumstances.”

The “Basta Ya” singer tragically died in a 2012 plane crash at age 43. At the time, she was at the peak of her career and the first woman to sing narcocorridos. She also starred in her own reality show called I Love Jenni on Universo. Her life also inspired Mariposa de Barrio, a biographical telenovela about her life on Telemundo.

In June 2023, producers Sergio Lizárraga and Pavel Ocampo released her posthumous album Misión Cumplida, which included eight unreleased songs.

Meanwhile, in December 2022, Rivera’s kids honored the 10-year anniversary of her death on social media.

Chiquis shared a throwback photo with mom Jenni and began the post by writing, “3,650 days without you. How!!? When?? Why!!!? ….”

“It’s 1:41am PST… and 10 years ago today, at this exact time you were flying, and I was in Vegas missing you. I felt you… and I will never forget the pain my heart felt that night. It’s similar to what I’m feeling now,” she wrote. “Foolishly, I thought It would have been a little easier today, because it’s been 10 years now, but somehow it weighs heavier. Just to know I’ve lived 10 whole years without you, hurts. I miss you like crazy …and it seems that will never change. I need my mom. I need your guidance. Your hugs. Your help.”

She added, “Momma, no matter how many years go by or what happens, I PROMISE to continue to protect, guide and keep my siblings united. I know how important that was to you…and I know that’s the best way I can honor your memory, and your legacy.”

Chiquis, who’s a musician in her own right, signed off the post by writing that it is “an honor to be your first born” and “I love you, forever.”
