Human Remains Found in Wastewater Well Near Missing Student Caleb Harris’ Apartment

The remains have not yet been identified, and the investigation into the 21-year-old’s disappearance is ongoing, authorities said.

The Bee County Sheriff’s Office has reported that unidentified human remains have been found near the apartment where Caleb Harris, a 21-year-old college student from Texas, was last seen before he disappeared on March 4th.

A city employee made the grim discovery on Monday, June 24th, in a 40-foot-deep well used for wastewater collection, around 3:30 p.m. local time in Corpus Christi, Texas, the Corpus Christi Police Department said in a news release. The area is close to the off-campus apartment where Caleb lived.

Following the discovery, the Corpus Christi Fire Department was called to assist. Firefighters, equipped with hazardous material suits, worked to retrieve the remains, as stated in the news release on Tuesday, June 25th.

The well had to be drained of wastewater so that the hazmat team could safely remove the remains. These remains are now with the medical examiner’s office, which is working diligently to determine their identity.

Authorities revealed that this location had been inspected multiple times during the early stages of Caleb’s search, incorporating the efforts of local authorities, friends and family, and organizations including the U.S. Coast Guard and Texas Search and Rescue.

“This whole area has been searched many times over,” a Corpus Christi Police Department spokesperson told the local media.

The investigation into Caleb Harris’ disappearance continues to be active and ongoing, with authorities leaving no stone unturned.

Caleb Harris, originally from New Braunfels, was reportedly last seen when he went out at 3 a.m. to pick up an Uber Eats order, leaving his dog alone in his apartment. His father, Randall “Randy” Harris, mentioned that Caleb’s order was marked as completed, but Caleb himself seemed to have vanished.

The Uber Eats order was discovered the following day by his roommate outside the apartment. Additionally, Caleb had left behind critical personal items such as his keys, wallet, and car, making the situation even more puzzling.

Randy Harris shared with Fox News at the time: “There’s no evidence of wrongdoing, but there’s no evidence at all. And so it’s a matter of looking at every inch, everything we could possibly think of.”

Uber confirmed that Caleb’s delivery was completed without any incidents, and the delivery driver continued to make subsequent deliveries.

“It is a mystery,” Randy Harris expressed to Fox News.

To support the ongoing search and investigation, a GoFundMe fundraiser was initiated, raising more than $70,000 as of the latest update.
