Boxer Roy Jones Jr. Announces Son DeAndre’s Death by Suicide

“I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family,” Jones wrote

It’s with great sadness that we report Roy Jones Jr.’s son, DeAndre Jones, has passed away at the age of 32.

On Saturday, June 22, DeAndre died by suicide. This heartbreaking news was confirmed by Roy Jr. on Monday, June 24 through an Instagram statement.

“Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday,” Jones shared.

He went on to express his gratitude for being able to spend DeAndre’s last night with him and the family. “I’m so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family,” said Jones.

Roy Jr. also sent a powerful message to those struggling, urging them to reconsider such a tragic decision. “I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life,” he wrote. “God gives it and God should be the one to take it away.”

He asked the public to give his family some privacy as they mourn. “Please respect our privacy while my family and I process this loss. Thank you for the love and support,” he concluded.

DeAndre was one of Roy Jr. and his wife Natlyn Jones’s three children. The couple also has two other sons, Roy III and DeShaun Jones.

Many have reached out to express their condolences on the tragic news. Actor Martin Lawrence wrote, “My condolences brotha ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ.”

UFC champion Mike Swick shared his sympathy as well, commenting, “I was in a very similar situation when I was young and feel your pain and confusion. I couldnโ€™t agree with you more! Stay strong Champ!! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป.”

Former boxer Amir Khan also offered his support, writing, “My deepest condolences brother I am so sorry. Praying for your family. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ.”

Roy Jones Jr. is renowned in the boxing world for his impressive career, earning victories in multiple weight classes ranging from lightweight to heavyweight. Across his 29-year boxing journey, he secured 66 wins, including 47 by knockout, according to Sky News.

He stepped away from the boxing ring in February 2018, wrapping up his career after 75 professional fights.
