The stamp’s design will look like a ‘Jeopardy!’ question as it honors Trebek’s 37 seasons hosting the beloved game show
Alex Trebek’s legacy is living on!
The late and beloved Jeopardy! host is getting his own stamp, the game show announced in a video on X (formerly Twitter) Friday, June 21. The “forever stamp” will be available at the United States Postal Service — beginning on a very special day.
“I’m excited to announce that the next icon to receive a stamp will be our very own Alex Trebek,” current host Ken Jennings said. “The stamp will be officially released on July 22, on what would have been Alex’s 84th birthday.”
The video gave a preview of the stamp, which features the show’s classic white text on a blue background, reading: “This naturalized U.S. citizen hosted the quiz show ‘Jeopardy!’ for 37 seasons.”
The stamp is available for pre-sale now until its release on July 22 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
Trebek died on Nov. 8, 2020 after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer less than two years prior. He was 80 years old.
In the years since, Jeopardy! has done several things to pay tribute to the icon. Trebek taped his final episodes of the show up until weeks before his death, which were aired posthumously.
“You will recall about a month ago, I asked all of you to take a moment and give thanks for all of the blessings that you enjoy in your lives,” Trebek said in his final monologue.
“Now, today a different kind of message. This is the season of giving. I know you want to be generous with your family, with your friends, your loved ones, but today I’d like you to go one step further,” he continued. “I’d like you to open up your hands and open up your hearts to those who are still suffering because of COVID-19. People who are suffering through no fault of their own. We’re trying to build a gentler, kinder society. If we all pitch in just a little bit, we’re going to get there.”
Executive producer Mike Richards told Today in January 2021 that Trebek was “an absolute warrior” during his last days in the studio.
“What he was able to do by getting himself back to the set to tape those final episodes, and we didn’t know it was going to be his final episodes and neither did he, but it was herculean,” Richards, 45, said at the time.
He added that looking back, Trebek “was in enormous pain,” but fans “will not sense any of that” because of his perseverance.
“He is strong, he sounds great, he is funny and he’s amazing,” Richards said.
