Al Roker and his wife are preparing for an emotional departure.

Due to a severe health issue, the much-loved weatherman could not appear on the show for two months.

Al Roker and his family have been dealing with his current illness, which has been a difficult journey.

The Today host was forced to step down from his duties and take a leave of absence from the show due to blood clots in his lungs.

Al and his family, which includes his wife, Deborah Roberts, and their three children, Nick, Leila, and Courtney, had anticipated that his health would improve. While it has, Al is preparing for a difficult goodbye.

As the family’s life returns to normal, Nick, the youngest son, is prepared to return to college.

Deborah said on Instagram that it would be difficult to see him go because he had been home for the holidays and supported them all from their New York home.

In the photograph shared by the ABC journalist, the college student can be seen doing what he enjoys most: cooking up a storm in the kitchen.

“Well done,” she said to herself. “Outstanding culinary effort, @nickroker155. We shall miss your talents now that you are focusing on your studies. #proudmom #bestson #thankyou.”

Because the two formerly hosted many culinary segments, many viewers have wished to see Al and Nick reunited in the kitchen.

Due to Nick’s departure from home and enrollment in college until summer, Al and Deborah now have an empty nest.

Al addressed his recent health scare and thanked his children for their support during it once he had fully recovered.

Deborah called the experience “the worst thing we’ve ever gone through as a family and as a wife.” She referred to the situation as “the most challenging thing we’ve ever encountered.”

She successfully conceals the reality of the situation from Al, who continued: “If I had understood how bad it was, I’m not sure if I would have been able to keep up the sunny attitude that I had. I had no idea they were sobbing when I passed them in the corridor.”

“Nick would pass by every 15 or 20 minutes and lean down, kiss me on the head, and say, ‘I love you, Dad,’” he revealed during the Today show interview.

After a difficult period, Al is back at work and feeling as well as ever, physically and psychologically.
