Pop Star Britney Spears Arrested In California

Britney Spears has reportedly been arrested for driving under the influence.

According to TMZ, the pop superstar, 44, was taken into custody on the night of Wednesday, March 4, in Ventura County, California. The “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer was reportedly handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol at around 9:28 p.m. local time.

Authorities booked Spears into custody at 3:02 a.m., according to Ventura County Sheriff’s inmate records. She was later released at 6:07 a.m. Thursday morning. A court date in the case has reportedly been scheduled for May 4.

TMZ was the first outlet to report the arrest.

Following the incident, Spears reportedly removed her Instagram profile.

Per Page Six, the arrest comes months after Spears sparked concern over her driving. In October 2025, the Daily Mail published a video showing the “Toxic” singer leaving the Thousand Oaks restaurant Red-O and getting into the driver’s seat of her black BMW while bystanders allegedly tried to stop her.

One eyewitness claimed Spears “nearly ran over her friend” while pulling out of the parking lot. The video reportedly showed the vehicle swerving between lanes, tailgating another car and briefly entering a bike lane as it headed toward her Thousand Oaks home.

Spears later addressed the footage on social media, insisting that it was not her behind the wheel but a “lookalike.”

At the time, the restaurant’s manager also defended the singer. Oliver Wynn told Us Weekly that Spears appeared calm and “super chill” during her visit and said she had not ordered alcohol while dining, though a fan reportedly purchased her a glass of wine.
