When Luke expressed his dissatisfaction with his grandmother, Mrs. Waters, about his inheritance, she decided to remove him from her will. Instead, she left him with a dusty old chest. Luke, not knowing what to do with it, stored it in the attic for years. It wasn’t until his curious daughter, Meredith, came across it that Luke decided to finally open the chest. Mrs. Elizabeth Waters was an 80-year-old with three grandsons: Tom, Aidan, and Luke. One day she decided to write a will. She gathered her grandsons at her lovely home in Milford, Connecticut, and explained what she was leaving to each. The eldest, Tom, was set to inherit her grand seaside penthouse in Miami. Aidan, the second oldest, would receive her home in Milford. These properties were quite valuable and worth millions.
As for Luke, she said, “Luke, you will receive all the money in my bank accounts.” However, Luke was not pleased with this arrangement.
“Grandma! That’s not fair! You’re giving my brothers the best assets, and I’m left with just the money in your accounts? We all know it isn’t much!” Luke protested loudly. Mrs. Waters was disappointed as her other grandsons were visibly shocked by Luke’s reaction.
Tom spoke up, “Luke, you can’t speak to Grandma like that! You should be grateful she’s leaving anything at all.” He was supported by Aidan, who also reproached Luke’s behavior.
Despite their attempts to reason with him, Luke left the house in anger. The older brothers tried to mediate, wanting to maintain family harmony. After all, their parents had passed away unexpectedly, leaving the brothers only with each other and their grandmother.
Soon after, Mrs. Waters reconsidered her decision. Insulted by Luke’s outburst, she visited her legal counsel and updated her will. Upon her passing two years later, her grandsons convened for the reading of the will. As expected, Tom and Aidan got their promised properties, but Luke was in for a shock.

“These are real gold bars! What do these numbers mean?” Meredith asked, looking at the bars.
Luke, still stunned, explained the weight inscriptions to her. There were ten gold bars in total.
Meredith discovered an envelope from Milford Bank inside the chest. It contained a key. “This could be a bank deposit box key,” Luke speculated.
Upon his wife’s encouragement, Luke visited the bank where the manager, Mr. Paxton, enthusiastically welcomed him. “Mrs. Waters was one of our cherished clients,” Mr. Paxton said as he led Luke to the deposit box.
The box revealed even more gold bars, weighing a kilogram each, alongside some sparkling gemstones. “Your grandmother believed in tangible wealth over digital,” the manager explained cheerfully.
