Fox News host Tucker Carlson took aim at the hosts of “The View.” He claimed they went too far this time.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson had some strong words for the hosts of “The View.” Carlson, who enjoys a large nightly audience of around 3 million on his primetime show, pointed his criticism at the popular ABC talk show, accusing its hosts of crossing a line. Carlson’s program, known for breaking records, once reached an average of over 4.5 million viewers in April 2020.
In one of his segments covering the aftermath of hurricane season, Carlson argued that politics in America has become deeply divided. He highlighted “The View” as an example, suggesting that the show’s hosts had taken their comments too far.
The controversy began when Whoopi Goldberg discussed Governor Ron DeSantis’s preparations for Hurricane Ian, a Category 4 storm that struck Florida. Carlson accused the ABC hosts of mocking the people affected by the disaster. “Even as bodies were still being identified in the streets of Florida,” he said, “The View mocked the people of Florida for daring to ask for disaster relief money from the federal government.”
Carlson then played a clip from “The View” for his viewers. In the video, Whoopi Goldberg talked about how Governor DeSantis said, “It’s all hands on deck to prepare for what’s coming,” including reaching across the aisle for help. Joy Behar then quipped, “Isn’t it socialism when the government helps you? Yeah, and the fire department’s gotta come, and the police. I mean…socialism!”
After airing the clip, Carlson offered his criticism. “Oh, so clever. What an incisive point,” he said with sarcasm. “[My] show is totally against censorship or de-platforming or pulling anyone off the air,” he stated. “However, as an objective fact, when that show goes off the air, a well-deserved death, and is forgotten, this country will be better off. That is simply true.”
Carlson continued to criticize the ABC talk show. “Consider what you just saw,” he said. “A hurricane devastates Florida, kills Americans, and the reaction on ‘The View’ is to laugh at them. They mock those who are suffering and claim it’s coming from a place of compassion. They laugh at people who are dying because they think they are better than you. See how that works?”
Tucker Carlson has faced his share of criticism as well. Despite his popularity, many have accused him of promoting white supremacy and acting as a Russian propagandist. Carlson, who founded The Daily Caller, has publicly denied these allegations.
“First of all, I’m a Christian, so I believe that God made everyone equal,” Carlson said. “The core value of every person is the same. But suggesting that I have a deep-seated racial bias? That’s just not true. I can be overly intense, sometimes nasty. If someone read my texts or heard my private conversations, they wouldn’t find me saying, ‘I’m mad at Black people.’”
“The people I’m mad at are usually well-educated white liberals,” he added. “In my mind, the typical person I dislike is like a 38-year-old female white lawyer with a barren personal life. That’s who tends to confront me on airplanes.”
When Whoopi Goldberg suggested that Tucker Carlson should be arrested, accusing him of being a foreign asset for Vladimir Putin, Carlson responded with incredulity. “When did they start arresting people for saying things like this? And who is ‘they’ exactly?” Carlson asked. “So we are at war with Russia! We must send you to the gulag… because freedom!”
