Chad McQueen, the talented actor best known for his role in ‘The Karate Kid’ and the beloved son of iconic Hollywood star Steve McQueen, has sadly passed away at the age of 63.

His family shared the heartbreaking news on social media on Thursday, describing his life as a ‘remarkable journey’. They posted a touching photo of Chad in a classic convertible on his verified Instagram account with the message, ‘He passed his passion, knowledge, and dedication down to us and we will continue not only his legacy but our grandfather’s as well.’

According to his lawyer, Arthur Barens, Chad passed away on Wednesday, though the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Chad will always be remembered for his standout role as Dutch in 1984’s ‘The Karate Kid’ as well as its 1986 sequel, ‘The Karate Kid Part II.’

The family has asked for privacy as they ‘navigate this difficult time and … as we remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.’

Born in Los Angeles, Chad McQueen found another passion in racecar driving, founding McQueen Racing. Unfortunately, his racing career was cut short in the mid-2000s due to severe injuries. ‘His passion for racing not only highlighted his exceptional talent, but also served as a way to honor his father’s legacy, a testament to the values instilled in him,’ his family noted.

McQueen was one of two children and the only son of Steve McQueen, often referred to as the ‘King of Cool.’ Steve McQueen was also a racing enthusiast and passed away in 1980 at the age of 50.

Chad leaves behind a loving family, including his three children — Steven, Chase, and Madison — and his wife, Jeanie Galbraith.

Continuing the family legacy, Steven McQueen, Chad’s son, has also pursued acting and is known for his role as Jeremy Gilbert in ‘The Vampire Diaries.’
