Lainey Wilson Told Taylor Swift How She Watched Her Perform When There Were Only 16 People in the Crowd

“I actually watched her perform at CMA Fest on the Riverfront stage… I was 14, and I remember just thinking, man, this girl’s future is bright,” Wilson recalled.

Lainey Wilson had a full circle moment with Taylor Swift.

The “Heart Like a Truck” singer, now 32, shared a touching story about her early admiration for Taylor Swift, now 34, during the Twisters film premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 11. She mentioned that it feels surreal knowing that Swift had been a fan of hers, while she had been a fan of Swift’s “for a long time.”

Wilson recounted, “I actually watched her perform at CMA Fest on the Riverfront stage when she was probably 15. I was 14, and I remember just thinking, man, this girl’s future is bright. And there was hardly anybody in the crowd except for me and my family.”

She continued, “And I got to tell her that. And she was like, ‘There were, like, 16 people there.’ And I said, ‘Well, we were four of them.’”

Wilson had previously revealed on the Zach Sang Show podcast, as per iHeartRadio, that she was “shocked” when Swift confessed she was a fan of hers. “I told her, I truly respect her. I think she is freaking awesome,” Wilson said at the time.

The Yellowstone star was deeply impressed by Swift’s successful career trajectory. “It’s just so cool to see how she’s done this. I think she’s just a boss. I got to see her show this past year and just left there feeling so inspired,” Wilson stated.

Interestingly, Wilson and Swift share another similarity – both are currently dating NFL stars. Wilson recently went public with her relationship with former NFL player Devlin Hodges, 28, while Swift is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 34.

Wilson highlighted the challenges musicians, especially women in country music, face in balancing personal relationships with their public careers. At the Twisters premiere, Wilson emphasized, “The truth is, as a female in country music, you gotta make dang sure that you are tending to business, and you’re out there whooping ass, and nothing is a distraction. And people sometimes can view that, if you have a boyfriend. They think, ‘Well, she’s gonna get married and have babies.’”

She confidently added, “And, that’s a point of view. But I’m like, guess what? We can do it all.”

Asked whether she might bring Hodges onstage during her ongoing tour, akin to how Swift brought Kelce, Wilson humorously responded, “We might. We might.”

Wilson’s Country’s Cool Again Tour continues in North America through December.
