Meet a remarkable 98-year-old matriarch from Kentucky who just experienced a special moment with her ever-growing family. MaeDell Taylor Hawkins had the joy of holding her first great-great-great-grandchild, the seven-month-old Zhavia Whitaker, for the very first time.
This heartwarming event, which took place in February, was captured in a photo that granddaughter Gracie Snow Howell shared online. The image quickly gained widespread attention and admiration.
MaeDell’s family tree is nothing short of amazing. She has over 620 descendants, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and now, a great-great-great-grandchild.
Gracie, who appears in the poignant photo alongside MaeDell, reflected on the significance of the moment, saying, “We thought this was special because it’s all girls.”
The photograph also features Frances Snow, Gracie Snow Howell, Jacqueline Ledford, and Jaisline Wilson, all of whom are great-granddaughters of MaeDell. Captured by Hawkins’ granddaughter Sheryl Blessing, this snapshot showcases six generations of family love and resilience. MaeDell is set to celebrate her 99th birthday in July.
MaeDell married Bill Taylor, a 50-year-old railroad worker, at the tender age of 16 in 1940. Bill had 10 children from his previous marriage, and together, they added 13 more children to their big family. Life was tough, often without basic conveniences like running water or a washer and dryer, as Bill was frequently away due to his job.
“I know she had it hard, but she didn’t complain,” Gracie shared.
Gracie also mentioned that her mother Frances never expressed any regret over their humble lifestyle. The boundless love and support from MaeDell have created generations of happy, healthy women and children, which is beautifully depicted in the family photo.
Gracie hopes to capture another photo of the growing family in June if everything goes well for both Grandma and the baby, she explains.
Remarkably, MaeDell’s family extends far beyond Kentucky. With 37 great-great-great-grandchildren, 106 grandchildren, 222 great-grandchildren, and 234 great-great-grandchildren, she has certainly built a legacy of love and strength.
Raising such an extensive family with limited resources is an incredible feat. What are your thoughts on this inspiring story? Feel free to share your comments!
