Ky. Man is Killed in Gun Shop After Fellow Customer Accidentally Shoots Him While ‘Manipulating’ Firearm

Chad Wainscott, 50, died over the weekend after another customer discharged a firearm at a Carroll County gun store.

A tragic event unfolded this past weekend at a gun shop in Carroll County, Kentucky, where a 50-year-old man named Chad Wainscott lost his life after being accidentally shot by another customer who was handling a firearm.

The incident occurred on Saturday, June 29, around 8:30 p.m. at a shop located at 1496 Whites Run Rd. Kentucky State Police (KSP) reported the details in a news release, confirming they are investigating the unfortunate incident.

Chad Wainscott was found inside the store receiving emergency medical treatment for a gunshot wound when the officers arrived. Despite the immediate efforts of other store patrons to provide life-saving measures, Wainscott was taken to the hospital, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation indicates that another customer was looking at a firearm that was for sale and was manipulating it when a single round was accidentally discharged, striking Wainscott. The individual responsible for the firearm’s discharge is cooperating with the investigators, and witnesses at the scene have been interviewed. As of now, police have not suspected any foul play, and no charges have been placed.

According to an obituary, Chad Wainscott was a beloved member of both the Wheatley and Carrollton communities. Known for his warm smile and infectious personality, he will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. The obituary also mentions that he was a father to two children and had one grandson whom he adored.
