“Don’t get negative if it doesn’t work out,” the tennis star says in the video
Serena Williams is one step closer to her goal.
The tennis legend, 42, is being candid about her postpartum weight loss by documenting her journey with fans and sharing realtime fittings.
On Monday, July 1, Williams shared an Instagram video which shows her trying on her Valentino denim midi skirt for the third time.
“Ok everyone the jean skirt is baaaaaaackkkkkk,” she wrote in the caption. “Paris was fun, but I gotta see if I can fit in this skirt yet — saying a little prayer…lol.”
“I haven’t tried it on since last time. So, let’s see what happens here. Let’s say our prayers,” she says in the video while pulling the clothing item over her dusty pink athletic romper. “Don’t get negative if it doesn’t work out.”
Williams gets the skirt up to her waist and notes, “We don’t have that big of a problem anymore, but we still got a little bit of a problem.”
The Grand Slam champ states that she’s “made a lot of progress” as she buttons the skirt but struggles to pull the zipper up. “I’m not as sad, I’m not even disappointed. Honestly, I got it over my butt. It’s a little tight… I can’t really breathe.”
Williams takes off the skirt and optimistically tells the camera: “I might have to do one video. Hopefully the next one.”
Fans shared an outpouring of support for Williams in the comments, with many praising her current appearance. “Throw that skirt away and buy a new one with a lil stretch b/c your body is perfect,” wrote one supporter.
Another commented, “Chile, have that skirt made into a little jacket or something! Your body is too bomb! You’re a mother, you’ve sacrificed your body twice to get 2 tiny humans here.”
The athlete first shared her denim skirt try on in a January Instagram post captioned, “The Diary of a Denim skirt (part 1).”
“I got this cool Valentino skirt when I was pregnant and I was like, ‘I’m gonna be able to fit in this when I don’t have a belly,’” the Olympian says in the clip, before revealing that it doesn’t fit.
She stated that her goal is to be able to wear the skirt. “And honestly, I should have been able to fit it by now, but I ran into some… I got distracted for about a month. And so, I’m about a month behind. We have a ways to go,” she said at the time.
Williams tried on the skirt for a second time in May, but found that it wouldn’t budge over her hips. “I am going to try on my skirt again to see if it’s any closer than it was four weeks ago. Really it’s been about six weeks. Honestly, I feel like it’s gonna fit the same because I’ve been gym-ing a lot but I don’t know if the needle is moving,” she said in the video.
“I wanna cry, but I’m not. I’m gonna stop eating all those snacks,” she joked.
