Tony Hudgell, a spirited 9-year-old, along with his family, got to enjoy an unforgettable outing at Buckingham Palace a few days ago.
Queen Camilla recently shared a delightful tea-time with young Tony after he missed a previous royal event. Last month, Tony and his family were caught in traffic, unable to attend a garden party. His mother, Paula Hudgell, took to social media to share their disappointment. In a heartwarming response, the royal family invited them back for another visit.
On June 26, Tony, who is a double amputee, and his family were warmly welcomed at the palace. They were joined by 12-year-old Lyla O’Donovan and her family.
Upon arrival, they witnessed the majestic Changing of the Guard. The group then enjoyed tea in the garden’s Summer House with Queen Camilla, followed by a private tour of The Royal Mews.
During this special day, Queen Camilla presented Tony with a British Empire Medal (BEM) — a proud moment for the young boy who co-founded the Tony Hudgell Foundation.
Paula, Tony’s mom, shared her joy about the experience, saying, “We were incredibly honored by this invitation. It was an experience beyond our dreams. Everyone was so gracious and made us feel at ease.” She added that Tony and the Queen talked as if they were old friends, making the day even more memorable.
Lyla, who has shown remarkable courage while dealing with a rare brain tumor, also had her special moment with the Queen. She has raised funds for sick children and was recently honored as the Inspirational Service Child of the Year.
Lyla expressed her gratitude, noting how special and appreciated everyone made her feel during the visit. “A massive thank you to everyone involved,” she said. “We are so grateful and feel so lucky to have been invited.”
