The deadly crashes happened in the early morning hours of July 1
A 7-year-old boy has been listed as one of four people killed in an early morning Florida crash that left several others injured.
The fatal incident happened on I-95 in Indian River County at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Monday, July 1, according to a statement from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Authorities did not release the identities of the crash victims.
The crash, which involved five vehicles and 11 people, occurred northbound near mile marker 153. Local news stations displayed video footage showing the closed northbound lanes as authorities were on the scene.
Northbound traffic was closed for hours, with vehicles being directed off at SR-60 (exit 147), according to the press release.
The multi-car collision began when a 37-year-old Miami resident driving a Toyota Camry rear-ended a Suzuki Vitara driven by a 40-year-old man, also from Miami. The impact caused both vehicles to become disabled on the highway.

Soon after, a 40-year-old Palm Bay woman driving a Dodge Journey collided with the Suzuki. Passengers in her car included a 7-year-old boy, a 2-month-old boy, a 9-year-old girl, a 5-year-old girl, and a 42-year-old man.
The drivers of the Toyota Camry and the Suzuki Vitara exited their vehicles to help those in the Dodge.
As the two drivers were assisting the individuals in the Dodge Journey, a Freightliner semi traveling northbound struck the left side of the Dodge.

The collision caused the Dodge Journey to move northeast toward the shoulder, ejecting one occupant from the vehicle.
Tragically, the Freightliner struck and killed the drivers of the Camry and Suzuki.
The driver of the Freightliner semi, a 63-year-old man from Miami, was released from the scene once authorities arrived.
The pile-up continued when a Chrysler Pacifica, trying to avoid the wreckage, struck the disabled Toyota Camry.
Two people inside the Chrysler, a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman from Ontario, Canada, were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Of those in the Dodge Journey, four were hospitalized. Sadly, the 7-year-old boy and the 40-year-old driver lost their lives.
A 42-year-old man, a 5-year-old boy, a 2-month-old boy, and a 9-year-old girl from Palm Bay were in stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital.
