Officer Goes Viral for Sharing His Umbrella with Stray Dogs During Heavy Rain

There are countless stray dogs out there, braving the elements with no loving homes to turn to. So, it’s truly heartwarming to see individuals extend kindness to these animals.

Stray dogs lack proper shelter, so it’s especially touching when people go the extra mile to shield them from harsh weather, be it extreme heat, biting cold, or a simple rainy day.

Recently, one police officer captured hearts everywhere by sharing his umbrella with two stray dogs during a heavy downpour, offering them a brief escape from the rain.

Tarun Kumar Mandal, a police constable stationed in Kolkata, India, and in charge of the East Traffic Guard, found himself with unexpected companions last week at a busy seven-point crossing.

As the rain poured down, Tarun kept himself dry with an umbrella. When two stray dogs approached him, he kindly extended the umbrella to cover them as well, giving the street dogs some temporary shelter:

This touching scene quickly went viral. As reported by Indian Express, the photograph was captured by Sayan Chakraborty and shared on the Kolkata Police’s official Facebook page, garnering over 10,000 shares.

India has one of the highest populations of stray dogs in the world, with an estimated 35-40 million on the streets.

According to Indian Express, Kolkata has experienced its highest September rainfall in 14 years. During such intense weather, these stray dogs were undoubtedly soaked in recent weeks and were no doubt grateful for the officer’s momentary act of kindness.
