Dallas police officers were involved in a concerning incident on Friday evening, resulting in the fatal shooting of a man holding a woman hostage with a knife inside a tent.
The episode unfolded around 6:45 p.m. when officers answered a disturbance call on the 5800 block of Beltline Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered that a man had committed an aggravated assault with a knife against a family member.
Tracking the suspect to a wooded area, officers found him in a tent with a woman. The man, armed with a knife, began moving towards the officers despite their instructions to drop his weapon.
The police, seeing no other option, fired at the man, hitting him. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The woman, who was considered a hostage, was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Thankfully, no officers were harmed during the tense encounter. Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia has announced plans to address the situation more thoroughly during a press conference on Monday.
