If you spot these mysterious black dots in your kitchen, you had better know what they mean

It’s never all that fun to notice things in our homes that don’t seem to have an obvious explanation.

Whenever I stumble upon a new mark on the wall, or catch a faint whiff of a strange smell, I immediately worry if it’s going to get worse and end up costing me money to fix.

So, I can completely understand one internet user’s concern when she discovered mysterious black dots appearing in her kitchen.

Unexplained marks or odd findings in the kitchen can be particularly alarming. After all, this is where we prepare our food, and we like to have full control over the cleanliness and safety of this important space.

One homeowner was baffled by a series of strange black dots she kept finding in her kitchen.

“Does anyone have any idea what these points might be?” she asked in the Facebook group ‘WeLoveMrsHinch’.

“They first appeared on the kitchen tiles, then on top of the PC we keep in the kitchen this morning.”

Luckily, other Facebook users were able to provide an answer, though it probably wasn’t what she was hoping to hear.

“Look closely, and you will probably find a spider,” someone commented.

“It happens a lot this time of year, spiders pooing everywhere,” another user added.

According to the Pest Guidance website, spiders “don’t leave solid droppings; instead, their droppings are thick and liquid” and resemble dark ink stains, often appearing on walls and surfaces.

“Their faeces look like splats or drips in the shades of black, brown, white or grey,” the website explains.

“The color or type of faeces depends on the species, but in most cases, you can expect dark splats or drips.

“These droppings are a combination of food and other waste materials that are released from the spider’s body.”

I had no idea about spider droppings before reading this, did you? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
