Mississippi Mom of Two Thought She Was Having Twins, Had Quintuplets Instead: ‘Five is a Lot of Babies’

“I was in complete shock,” Ashley Meyers said.

A Mississippi mother who thought she and her husband were having twins got the surprise of a lifetime when they learned they were actually expecting quintuplets!

Ashley and Tyler Meyers of Laurel shared their journey of how their family of four would soon become a bustling family of nine. The couple already have two daughters, Paisleigh, 3, and Westlynn, 2.

In an interview, Ashley recounted how the revelation unfolded. She took a pregnancy test after noticing her period was a day late, and it turned out to be extremely positive.

“Not only was the test positive, the line was darker than I’ve ever seen in my life,” she explained.

Ashley and Tyler were initially told they would be having twins, but this news soon changed. At an OB-GYN appointment just two weeks later, they discovered Ashley was carrying quintuplets—two boys and three girls.

“I was in complete shock,” she admitted. “My husband and I didn’t talk to people for two weeks. We just went silent. Five is a lot of babies.”

Tyler was equally stunned, but his faith provided comfort. “I was like, ‘How are we going to do this?’” he said. “But you just need to leave it up to God. He is not going to put you in a situation that you can’t handle.”

At 25-weeks pregnant and on bedrest, Ashley set up a GoFundMe to help with the upcoming expenses. “We have 2 beautiful little girls, and are pregnant with FIVE miracle babies,” she wrote. “We just bought a new home and were getting used to our crazy little family of four. But God had BIG BIG plans for us and had chose us to care for five more beautiful babies.”

The funds raised, which currently stand at $1,000 of a $10,000 goal, will assist with gas, medical expenses, diapers, and wipes. Ashley also expressed gratitude for prayers and support from those who read their story.

Quintuplets are extremely rare, occurring in about one in 60 million births, according to Dr. Rachael Morris, an associate professor of maternal fetal medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Amazingly, another Mississippi couple, Haylee and Shawn Ladner, also welcomed quintuplets earlier this year.
