Video shows homeowner chasing would-be burglar with frying pan out of his home, into hands of police

CHICAGO – A Chicago homeowner thwarted a burglary attempt on Thursday in a rather unconventional but effective way—by using a frying pan.

A dramatic security camera video captured Jason Williams in action as he chased the burglar out of his home on the city’s Northwest Side.

Williams, who spoke with ABC7 Chicago, mentioned that he was shaken but otherwise fine on Thursday night. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. in his home located in the Logan Square neighborhood.

„I grabbed the frying pan, and at the same time, the burglar came downstairs,” Williams recounted.

The video footage shows Williams chasing the suspect, frying pan in hand, and even taking a swing.

„At this point, it was fight or flight, and I would rather do the fighting,” Williams remarked.

Williams was on his way home from work, just minutes away, when he received an alert from his alarm system about the break-in.

„I came into the house, looked for an available weapon, saw a frying pan lying there, so I grabbed it. As I did, the burglar came downstairs,” Williams explained.

When Chicago police arrived, Williams had already chased the suspect out of his house and around the yard. The police eventually apprehended the suspect across the street.

„This incident could have had a very different outcome, and I’m glad it ended well,” Williams stated. „My wife’s not pleased with the decision I made, and I probably wouldn’t do it again. But what’s done is done.”

According to the Chicago police, a suspect was taken into custody. It is currently unclear if any criminal charges have been filed.
