The Prince of Wales previously connected with the singer, even taking the stage together with Bon Jovi in 2013
Prince William and his kids are confirmed Swifties!
The attendees at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London on June 21 included some royal fans. Royal reporter Roya Nikkhah shared on X that the Prince of Wales and his children watched the show at Wembley Stadium during the first night of the tour stop. William shares Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, with Kate Middleton.
William, George and Charlotte snapped a candid selfie with the pop star backstage. The candid photo, shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account, shows Swift beaming alongside the three royals as she captures the moment. The caption read, “Thank you @taylorswift for a great evening! #LondonTSTheErasTour.”
The concert doubled as a birthday celebration for Prince William, who turned 42 that day.
Princess Kate was not reported to make the outing with her family. The Princess of Wales, 42, has remained largely out of the public eye in recent months as she continues her cancer treatment. She made a special appearance on June 15 at Trooping the Colour, the annual celebration of King Charles’ birthday, marking her first public outing with the royals since Christmas. However, the event did not signal a return to public life, with future engagements depending on when she feels able and under the guidance of her medical team.
Prince William’s sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, attended Swift’s August 2023 tour stop in Los Angeles.
Swift, 34, was welcomed to London by the royal guard earlier on June 21 when the band played “Shake It Off” in front of Buckingham Palace.
“Can’t stop, won’t stop groovin’,” the royal family captioned a video of the performance on social media.
Prince William has previously connected with Swift — in fact, he’s put on a little performance with her! Back in 2013, the royal was led to the stage by Swift during a Centrepoint charity event at Kensington Palace to join Jon Bon Jovi for a rendition of “Livin’ on a Prayer.’” The candid moment was described by William’s aides at the time as completely “off the cuff.”
Eight years later, Prince William recalled how the memorable moment came to be on an episode of Apple Fitness+’s Time to Walk series.
“So, around about — it must be nearly 10 years ago now — I can’t believe I’m actually telling this story,” Prince William started. “I went to a charity fundraising gala for Centrepoint, which is a young homeless charity that I am very fond of and have supported for many years. It’s an annual fundraiser, and I turn up, and Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift are at the event, which nearly knocked me off my feet as well.”
“When I sat down to watch Jon Bon Jovi do his performance, I thought, ‘That’s it. My job is done. I’ll get a dinner in a minute, and I might be able to have a chat to some people, and, you know, I’m off-duty a little bit now.’ Little did I think what was going to happen next,” he continued. “I’m sat next to Taylor Swift. She’s on my left. And after Jon does his first song, there’s a pause and she turns to me. She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eye, and says, ‘Come on, William. Let’s go and sing.’”
“To this day, I still do not know what came over me,” William said. “Honestly, even now, I’m cringing at what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in. But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.’”
The Prince of Wales made his admiration for Swift known again at the 2023 Tusk Conservation Awards. According to Hello! magazine, the royal referred to the pop star while speaking with rocker Ronnie Wood about The Rolling Stones.
“We were talking about the tour and I said, ‘Come on, you’ve got to come out on tour,’ and we were talking about the new album and everything,” Wood said, according to Hello! “William said [he would] if we could get Taylor Swift there.”
The guitarist reportedly told William that the “Fearless” singer had previously performed with his bandmate Mick Jagger, to which the royal replied, “I’m there then.”
