“We’ve been feeling double the love,” Cleveland Clinic’s Hillcrest Hospital shared in a heartfelt Facebook post about the remarkable baby boom this June.
An Ohio hospital’s neonatal ICU staff has their work cut out for them after welcoming seven sets of twins in just a few days.
In a Facebook post shared on June 11, Cleveland Clinic’s Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights revealed that the NICU and postpartum units have been buzzing with activity due to the influx of twin births over the past week.
“We’ve been feeling double the love caring for seven sets of newborn twins, all at the same time,” the hospital announced.
“Some parents welcomed their first babies, while others like Jason and Kara expanded their now family of seven!” the post continued, accompanied by sweet photos of the beaming families and their adorable newborns. “Best wishes to all!”
Hospital nurses Karoline Ferencak and Halle Wedler shared their experiences with local ABC affiliate station News 5 Cleveland, marveling at the 14 newborns that have been keeping them on their toes this week.
“How are we gonna get them all done?” Ferencak chuckled, talking about her and her colleagues’ reactions to the steady arrival of twins. “It was like, ‘boom, boom, boom.’”
“We had a great team on staff, everyone was well-prepared, and we worked efficiently to ensure all the babies were delivered safely,” Wedler added, proud of the hospital’s seamless performance under pressure.
Only one set of twins born in the last week were boy-girl siblings — all the other sets were either both boys or both girls. New mom Shannon Holz, from Shaker Heights, was the only mom to have a mixed pair, News 5 reported.
“We didn’t think we were going to have twins,” Holz shared. “It’s a blessing, and we are delighted to have two healthy babies.”
Although having 14 twins at once is quite a challenge for any hospital, Hillcrest Hospital reminisced with local Cleveland station FOX 8 about a time they took care of nine sets of twins simultaneously.
“We like to say, ‘Not double the work, double the fun.’ Honestly, working with these families has been incredibly rewarding,” nurse Jessica Cunningham told the outlet.
“We host a NICU reunion every year, and it would be wonderful to see all these families come back to reconnect and show how much the babies have grown,” Cunningham added. “This is a unique and heartwarming experience for everyone involved.”
