Kansas City Chiefs’ New $40,000 Super Bowl Rings Have a Typo

Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and members of the Chiefs organization were presented with the championship rings on June 13

Players and staff members from the Kansas City Chiefs were proudly presented with their Super Bowl LVIII championship rings on Thursday, June 13. These diamond and ruby-adorned treasures, however, include an unexpected typo that is bound to draw attention.

The grand $40,000 rings, earned by Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the rest of the Chiefs team after their victory over the San Francisco 49ers on February 11, are rich in symbolism. They commemorate the Chiefs’ win with details like the 22 points scored in the second half and overtime, illustrations of fireworks over Arrowhead Stadium, and 11 princess-cut rubies representing their 11 regular-season wins.

Inside the rings, the seeding for Kansas City’s four postseason opponents is engraved. These opponents include the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins.

On Friday, a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) pointed out a mistake. A user responded to Arrowhead Report’s Joshua Brisco, asking, “Tell me I’m wrong and that they didn’t mess up the Dolphins playoff seed,” after Brisco shared a detailed photo of the ring’s intricate design.

Indeed, a closer inspection of the Chiefs’ website reveals that the Miami Dolphins’ seeding is mistakenly listed as the seventh seed instead of the sixth. The Pittsburgh Steelers were actually the seventh seed last season.

Following the discovery of the typo, some speculated whether this error appeared solely on the Chiefs’ website. Nonetheless, Pro Football Talk has confirmed that at least one physical ring embodies this oversight.

Regardless of the minor hiccup, the Chiefs had a luxurious evening at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City to celebrate the ring ceremony on Thursday.

After the event, the Chiefs’ official account on X shared a gleaming video of the rings along with the caption: “529 diamonds. 38 rubies. One back-to-back champion.”

Mahomes attended the ceremony alongside his wife, Brittany, who shared delightful snippets from the evening.

Tight end Kelce was flying solo at the event, as his girlfriend Taylor Swift was busy touring the UK leg of her Eras Tour. Nonetheless, Swift managed to partake in the celebration through a different medium.

Wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s girlfriend, Chariah Gordon, went live on Instagram during the ceremony. Swift, who was in Liverpool, stayed up late to watch and cheer for the Chiefs.

Swift chimed in with enthusiasm, “JOINING THE PARTY FROM LIVERPOOL,” and added, “LET’S GOOOOOOOO!”
