The latest photos of David Beckham with his daughter, Harper, have stirred quite the debate. Some critics argue that such public displays of affection may be inappropriate, especially as Harper, now 12, continues to grow older.
Recently, David, the famous former footballer, shared an affectionate moment with Harper during a soccer match. What seemed like a harmless and loving father-daughter interaction quickly became a hot topic of conversation among fans once again.
Critics argue that at her age, Harper may be too old for such open displays of affection from her father. This isn’t the first time Beckham has faced backlash; he’s been previously criticized for kissing Harper on the lips in public.
One person commented, “Though sweet and innocent, it’s no longer appropriate. Harper looks more like a young woman now. Parents need to accept that children outgrow certain childhood phases.” Another added, “Definitely OTT with Harper… she’s 12, give her some space….”
However, most fans saw no problem. A supporter noted, “David loves his daughter and is expressive. The odd thing today is the suspicion toward normal family and fatherly affection. A father’s affection, regardless of the child’s age, has always been natural.”
Another shared, “I would have given anything to have a close relationship with my father, let alone a warm, loving one like David has with his children.”
Experts in parenting don’t see any harm in such expressions of affection. Dr. Victoria Khromova, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, mentioned that children often do not distinguish between forms of affection in the same way adults do. Therefore, a simple kiss from a parent may hold a different meaning for a child.
