Katie Holmes also joked that 18-year-old Suri likes to pilfer pieces from her closet.
Katie Holmes is planning to keep the fashion in the family.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the Dawson’s Creek alumna, 45, revealed that she has saved some of her old outfits for her daughter, Suri Cruise.
When Holmes — known for her effortless New York City street-style — was asked if she plans to pass any wardrobe pieces on to 18-year-old Suri, she confidently said yes.
“I’ve saved some things here and there. But Suri has her own sense of style and her own expressions,” she mentioned, speaking fondly about the teen she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Holmes shared a lighthearted moment when talking about Suri’s tendency to borrow clothes from her closet. “Sometimes the basics definitely disappear,” Holmes teased with a smile. “But that’s fine.” Over the years, they have enjoyed coordinating their outfits, wearing matching floral dresses in 2018 and fun tie-dye pants in 2020.
Reflecting on how motherhood has influenced her fashion, Katie mentioned, “When Suri was really small, I was drawn to wearing a lot of dresses. You go through different phases of motherhood and they influence what you feel comfortable in and what you don’t. So, over the years, my style has changed here and there.”
The Batman Begins star, who has collaborated with the French fashion brand APC, talked about her own evolving style, explaining that she’s always seeking inspiration from those with an innate sense of fashion.
Holmes shared that she enjoys experimenting with her style, blending classic and vintage pieces. “I like to mix and match classic pieces and vintage items,” she explained. “Living in New York City, I need practical and comfortable outfits. The city influences my style.”
She described her wardrobe staples, saying, “Usually, I’m in ballet flats, sneakers, baggy jeans, and a T-shirt. I like making it look effortless.”
Holmes emphasized the importance of self-evolution. “Take time to develop different parts of yourself, and your style will come,” she shared in a 2018 interview. “Everything will come together. It takes longer than you think. Just be kind to yourself. Appreciate yourself instead of comparing yourself to others.”
