Chet Hanks, the son of Tom Hanks and actress Rita Wilson, shared his true feelings about his celebrity dad, and it’s not all good.
Chet Hanks, the firstborn child of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, has often been considered the “black sheep” among Tom Hanks’ four kids. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chet reflected on his upbringing. He explained that growing up, people assumed he would be an “arrogant, spoiled, and entitled brat.”
Known professionally as “Chet Hanx,” the rapper and actor from shows like Empire and Shameless, Chet detailed his childhood and the impact it had on him. “I faced a lot of disdain and animosity,” he said, “because everyone was ready to hate me from the get-go. That left me with a chip on my shoulder and a lot of anger.”
Although Tom Hanks is often called “America’s dad,” Chet’s experience growing up with him was far from perfect. “I felt the need to prove myself,” Chet said. “Only now do I feel that I don’t have anything to prove to anyone.” He confessed that as a child, he didn’t understand people’s negativity towards him was rooted in jealousy. “I needed someone to tell me that these people were just projecting their insecurities onto me,” he added.
“I didn’t have a strong male role model to tell me these things,” Chet admitted. “I needed someone to say, ‘Hey, don’t listen to these people. They’re jealous because you have what they want.’” He wished someone had given him that advice when he was younger. “This is me now telling my younger self what I needed to hear,” he stated.
Chet, who often shares photos of himself working out on Instagram, explained that not having this guidance made him feel he had to “intimidate others” so they wouldn’t intimidate him. This mindset led him down a path of “self-destruction” marked by anger and excessive partying.
In 2021, Chet faced backlash for his controversial remarks, particularly when he announced the coming of “White Boy Summer” on Instagram, a spin on rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer.” His comments didn’t sit well with many, who said he was embarrassing his famous parents.
Recently, Chet has turned a new leaf, launching “HanxFit” to become a fitness trainer. According to reports, he’s creating custom workout plans and offering nutrition advice and meditation techniques. He’s also involved in life coaching, aiming to help people with personal growth through Zoom calls.
