Woman Adopts ‘Ugly’ Cat That No One Else Wanted: ‘It Was the Best Thing to Happen to Me’

There are many cats with “grumpy” faces, and we can’t help but love them. They might not be the most conventionally cute or cuddly cats, but they certainly have a charm of their own. Just think about Grumpy Cat, the late internet sensation! So, it’s hard to believe that one of these adorable “grumpy” kittens could be overlooked at a shelter. That was the case for one unfortunate kitty—until she found her perfect owner who loved her just the way she is.

Meet Bean

Francisca Franken, a big cat lover, was eager to adopt after moving into her own apartment: “I moved into a bigger flat so I could have a cat again,” she told Bored Panda.

Her search didn’t last long. She quickly fell for an exotic shorthair named Bean.

Though Bean had a unique look and was described as “feisty,” Francisca was instantly charmed. “I saw her photo and fell in love the second I saw her. Well, at first I laughed because the pictures were so funny and I’d never seen a cat like this before.”

However, when she contacted the shelter, the response was unexpected: they were puzzled why she would choose Bean.

“The lovely lady asked me if THAT really was the cat I wanted to apply for, because nobody had ever been interested in her,” Francisca wrote on Instagram. “I teared up at the thought that no one wanted her.”

The lady at the shelter was so confused she thought Francisca had made a mistake. Bean had been available for adoption for a month without any inquiries.

Bean was rescued from a neglectful environment in a trailer home and had some medical issues, but it seemed she was primarily overlooked because of her appearance.

“A lot of people who saw her at the shelter said she was ugly,” Francisca told The Dodo. “But I think she’s the most perfect girl ever.”

More determined than ever, Francisca set up a meeting at the shelter to finally see Bean in person.

While many had ignored Bean for her looks, Francisca fell even more in love when she met her. “What I saw was much more beautiful than I could ever imagine,” Francisca told Bored Panda. “Bean was (and still is) so tiny and small, she has very stubby legs and a short tail, and the cutest face I had ever seen.”

“I started crying when I walked into her room because I was so overwhelmed. She was not at all what I had imagined; she was so much better!”

Just one meeting was all it took for Francisca to decide to take Bean home.

Given her difficult past, it took a while for Bean to trust her new owner and settle in. Initially, Bean was overly attached, as if worried she might be sent back to the shelter if she wasn’t affectionate enough. “In the beginning, she was much more cuddly and clung to me everywhere I went,” Francisca told The Dodo.

Soon, Bean realized she was in a safe, loving home and began showing her true personality. “I think she noticed she didn’t need to ‘pretend’ and that I would never let her go, even if she stopped being cuddly and cute. So she started to show me her sassy side, which I loved because it let her true colors shine through.”

Bean now has her own Instagram account with over 4,000 followers. Like Francisca, people have fallen in love with this unique cat. Her photos capture Bean’s goofy and sassy personality in her new loving home.

One of Bean’s many quirks is her passionate love for olives. “She loves them so much that she broke into the fridge, gobbled down two or three and got off at lightning speed when I tried to stop her,” Francisca wrote on Instagram. “I was able to catch the thief, and she used all her power to free herself and the last remaining olive.”

Francisca gave Bean the home she might not have found otherwise, and she’s delighted by her decision. “Taking her in was the best thing to happen to me,” she told Bored Panda. “I think it was meant to be because nobody but me was interested in this beautiful cat… I’ve had cats most of my life, but she’s quite special.”

“Bean is not an official emotional support animal, but she’s definitely helped me through tough times. I can’t put into words how much I love her,” she told The Dodo. “She means the world to me and deserves all the love, especially after such a rough start.”

We’re so happy this beautiful cat has found a loving forever home! If you’d like to follow Bean’s adventures, you can check out her Instagram.
