Eric Clapton is the father of five children: Ruth, Julie Rose, Ella May, Sophie Belle, and the late Conor. Known as one of the most influential guitarists in rock history, Clapton’s musical legacy is complemented by his role as a father.
Clapton’s achievements in his decades-long career include 17 Grammy Awards and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times. But beyond his professional accolades, Clapton treasures his family deeply.
He fathered his first child, Ruth, with Yvonne Kelly in 1985 while still married to his first wife, Pattie Boyd. Ruth’s identity was kept a secret until after the tragic death of Clapton’s son, Conor, who died at the age of four in 1991. In his 2007 biography, Clapton: The Autobiography, Clapton credited Ruth with helping him navigate through his grief, stating, “Yvonne knew that [being close to Ruth] would help and it was true. I was able to hold a child again, and to be held by a child.”
