The actor shares his 13-month-old daughter with girlfriend Tiffany Chen
Robert De Niro’s baby daughter is celebrating her first birthday!
The 80-year-old actor spoke with Entertainment Tonight about his daughter Gia’s big day, revealing a few sweet details about her first birthday party. De Niro shares Gia with girlfriend Tiffany Chen.
“Yes, she did. She had a little cake, it was very nice, sweet,” De Niro told the outlet about his daughter’s birthday. Reflecting on his youngest, the actor said, “Well, she’s pure joy, there’s nothing about her, there’s no judgment, there’s no anything, she just is what she is and it’s just pure joy for god sakes.”
He is also dad to Drena, 56, and Raphael, 47, whom he shares with his first wife Diahnne Abbott, twins Julian and Aaron, 28, with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, and Elliot, 25, and Helen, 12, with ex-wife Grace Hightower.
In February, the Killers of the Flower Moon star said he sees “a lot of similarity” between himself and his daughter Gia as he looked at a picture of himself as a young boy.
The decades-old photo — which featured De Niro held by his father, painter Robert De Niro Sr. — also brought to mind his second-youngest child, Helen.
“It reminds me of my two youngest little girls,” said the two-time Oscar winner. “I see it also in one of my grandkids.”
De Niro also opened up about how much his other kids have loved getting to know their new baby sister.
“She’s such an adorable baby. So sweet,” the star said of the smiley girl. “[When I] look at her, everything else goes away. So it’s a great joy and relief to just be with her in the moment.”
“The kids all get a big kick out of her,” he said of Gia. “The grandkids even. She’s their aunt— [and] they’re about to be teenagers!” (Raphael has three young children; Drena’s only child, Leandro, died last July at age 19).
The actor particularly loves it when all the De Niros can gather. “The fact that they’d all be together,” he said, “is everything to me.” His favorite thing to do with them? “Just being together, taking trips to warm places,” he added.
De Niro appeared on the cover of AARP The Magazine’s February/March 2024 issue, opening up with the publication about becoming a dad again. “It feels great,” said De Niro.
The Hollywood legend continued of his youngest child, tearing up, “Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about just goes away when I look at her. It’s wondrous.”
“When she gets older — who knows? But that very sweet way she has of looking at you, taking you in, thinking and watching and observing …” De Niro added, getting teary-eyed.
