Gomez and Blanco have been linked since June 2023
Selena Gomez’s life might have taken a different turn if she hadn’t met her boyfriend, Benny Blanco.
In a chat with TIME, the Rare Beauty founder, 31, shared insights about her relationship with the music producer, 36. She revealed that if they hadn’t crossed paths, her future plans included adopting a baby when she turned 35.
“I was alone for five years and got quite used to it. Many people fear loneliness, and I probably battled with that for about two years before I accepted it,” explained Gomez.
“My plan was to adopt at 35 if I hadn’t met anyone,” she continued, noting that her friendship with Blanco blossomed into romance. “It often happens when you least expect it.”
Although Benny Blanco has openly expressed his desire to marry and start a family with Gomez, the Only Murders in the Building star approaches this new chapter with caution.
“I know the impact people can have on those I care about. Even my own fans, whom I love and who have shaped me, can sometimes say hurtful things about my life choices,” Gomez shared. “But Benny has a resilience that none of that bothers him.”
“It’s really impressive, and I cherish every moment with him. I can’t predict the future, but I know he’s not leaving anytime soon,” she added.
Gomez and Blanco, linked since June 2023, officially confirmed their romance in December 2023. They made their couple debut at the 2024 Emmys in January.
In a May appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Blanco discussed their relationship and his visions for their future. He shared a sweet story of their first Valentine’s Day, which included renting out an entire movie theater and getting Gomez’s favorite foods. Host Howard Stern commented, “You are some boyfriend, you’re knocking it out the park. I see love here, I’m predicting marriage.”
Blanco cheekily replied, “You and me both.”
Stern pressed further, asking, “When will you propose? You should make the announcement now.”
With a laugh, Blanco admitted, “When I look at her, I’m always just like, I don’t know a world where it could be better than this.”
Blanco also mentioned that their first anniversary is approaching around her birthday on July 22, adding that he has “some really good stuff” planned for the actress.
