Today’s younger generation may look at a VHS tape, landline telephone, or a Walkman with utter bewilderment, having no clue what they are. Living through an era of rapid technological advancement, it’s amazing to witness how quickly once-common household items have become relics of the past.

I’ll confess, when I first saw a picture of the object below, I was completely stumped. I could tell it was some kind of metal tool, but beyond that, I had no idea. Do you remember and recognize this object?

Does it ring any bells now? This is an old oil can opener spout! Despite its ancient appearance, this tool actually hails from the 1980s. It was used to puncture a hole in the top of cans and the spout was for pouring out the oil. It’s a simple yet ingeniously designed tool.

Thinking back to the 1980s, it feels like it was just yesterday. It’s mind-boggling to realize that the ’80s were over 40 years ago!
