Annie Potts is reflecting on what lies ahead as she prepares to bid farewell to Young Sheldon. During an appearance on The Talk, alongside her co-star Zoe Perry, Potts, 71, expressed her bittersweet feelings about the CBS sitcom coming to an end after seven successful seasons.
Potts shared, “I mean, I love the cast. Wonderful character to play. But hey, I’m old, this could be my last rodeo. I mean, I thought about that though, it panicked me a little bit. These things are hard to come by, I’ve had a couple, but they were all tough, so yeah.”
When asked if they had taken any memorabilia from the set, Potts humorously revealed, “Zoe stole some stuff.” Perry admitted to taking a small watch and joked that her husband insisted she return it because she was constantly fidgeting with it.
Jerry O’Connell, one of the co-hosts, inquired about the possibility of reprising their roles in the forthcoming spinoff centered around Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment). Potts responded, “We don’t really know yet,” while Perry added, “You never know.”
Reflecting on CBS’s decision to end the show, Potts shared with Variety that the cast felt “totally ambushed” by the news. She described the cancellation as a “stupid business move,” considering the show’s continuing success in ratings and its popularity on other platforms like Netflix and TikTok.
For Potts, who plays Sheldon’s grandmother, Meemaw, the show’s conclusion is particularly touching because of the bond she’s formed with her young co-stars, Iain Armitage (15) and Raegan Revord (16), who portrays Sheldon’s twin sister Missy.
In a February interview Potts became tearful while discussing her farewell to the young actors. “I’m going to cry right now,” she said. “I love the children, and it’s been a privilege to watch them grow up. Iain is so grown up. When we started, he and Reagan would sit on my lap, kiss me, and play with my fingernails and ears. They were tiny, and all day long, they would say, ‘I love you. I love you, Miss Annie.’”
