Shannen Doherty, the beloved star known for her role in “Beverly Hills, 90210,” faced a heartbreaking revelation just hours before undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumor. The 52-year-old actress discovered that her husband, Kurt Iswarienko, had been having a two-year affair.
In the debut episode of her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty,” she opened up about her pain and betrayal. She shared, “To not go into that surgery, even though, being very clear, he wanted to go, I couldn’t go into that surgery with him there. I felt so betrayed.”
Doherty, who filed for divorce in April, spoke candidly about the emotional toll this discovery took on her. “At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years, by someone I loved with all my heart,” she expressed. Dealing with health crises while navigating the possibility of divorce added to the anguish she was already experiencing.
The actress, known for her resilience, emphasized the importance of honesty and communication in a relationship. She became determined to uncover the truth about her husband’s infidelity, confronting him and even speaking with the other woman involved. This quest for the truth, although painful, highlighted her desire for transparency and the need for closure.
Despite the heartbreaking situation, Doherty recognized her own role in the difficulties that arose within their marriage. She acknowledged, “I take responsibility not only because of how I was but because of how cancer impacted my marriage and how it impacted him the second time around.” Her battle with cancer undoubtedly took a toll on their relationship but did not diminish her belief in love.
Throughout her journey, Doherty held on to memories and struggled to let go of the relationship. She described the confusion she felt while making the decision to file for divorce, compounded by the effects of brain surgery and medication. Despite the pain, she bravely faced the reality of her situation.
Doherty’s resilience and strength have been on display for the world to witness. Diagnosed with cancer in 2015, she continues to fight against Stage 4 breast cancer that has now spread to her bones. In her own words, “I don’t want to die. I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better.”
Shannen Doherty’s story is a testament to the human spirit and the power of resilience. As she continues to share her journey on her podcast, she inspires us all to face life’s challenges head-on and embrace every moment with strength and determination.
