Jamie Lee Curtis, the beloved actress at the age of 64, recently opened up about her courageous path to sobriety in a candid interview. Reflecting on her history with opioid addiction, Curtis shared her feelings of immense gratitude for overcoming it 24 years ago.
During the interview, Curtis revealed that her darkest moments went unnoticed by others, emphasizing, “My worst day was almost invisible to anyone else.” She acknowledged her luck in not making life-altering decisions while under the influence, unlike many women in prison whose lives have been shattered by addiction.
Curtis expressed the pivotal role sobriety played in providing her with clarity and a fresh perspective. As an opiate addict who once enjoyed the “opiate buzz,” she made a powerful statement, confessing, “If fentanyl was available as easily as it is today on the street, I’d be dead.”
She lived a double life of stealing and scheming until 1999, while no one around her had any inkling of her addiction. However, the journey to sobriety has become her greatest accomplishment, enabling her to lead an incredible life.
Sobriety liberated Curtis, allowing her to find herself and accept who she truly is. She revealed, “I look in the mirror. I see myself. I accept myself. And I move on because you know what? The world is filled with things we need to do. I’m breaking the cycle that has basically destroyed the lives of generations in my family.”
The actress has experienced the devastating loss of her brother Nicholas, who tragically died from a heroin overdose at the age of 21. Similarly, her father, the renowned actor Tony Curtis, struggled with alcohol and drug abuse.
“Getting sober remains my single greatest accomplishment,” Curtis declared, recognizing its significance above all else in her life. “Bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children, and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything.”
Jamie Lee Curtis, we are rooting for you and your inspiring journey to sobriety!
