Gary Sinise: Honored with the Charlie Daniels Patriot Award

Gary Sinise, the well-known actor who portrayed Lt. Dan in the beloved movie “Forrest Gump,” has been proudly presented with the esteemed Charlie Daniels Patriot Award. The award was bestowed upon him by David Corlew, long-time manager of the late Charlie Daniels and co-founder of The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project (TCDJHP), alongside Green Beret combat veteran Joel Pruitt, who received the award last year.

Despite being unable to attend the event due to scheduling conflicts, Sinise was announced as a recipient of the 2022 Charlie Daniels Patriot Award during the fourth annual ceremony. David Corlew believes that Charlie Daniels himself would be thrilled and proud of Sinise for receiving the award.

Corlew expressed his admiration for Sinise, stating, “Gary Sinise has truly set the ‘high water mark’ when it comes to supporting our veterans. There is so much to learn from this extraordinary individual. Not only has he created an incredible body of work in the film and entertainment industry, but he has also utilized his platform to make a positive difference for all of us. He is a shining example of selfless service. Simply put, he cares, and so do we. Charlie would be very proud of this well-deserved recognition.”

Gary Sinise received the award with deep gratitude and humility. “To be presented with this award in the name of Charlie Daniels is nothing short of a blessing, a privilege, and an honor. Why did I get so lucky?” he exclaimed.

The Charlie Daniels Patriot Award is given to individuals or groups who exemplify the mission of The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project, which is to support veterans in their return, rehabilitation, and reintegration into civilian life. The award recognizes the dedication and efforts of TCDJHP in caring for, supporting, and encouraging the men, women, and families who have bravely served our nation. Previous recipients of the award have included Chris Young, Darryl Worley, Mike Huckabee, Mark “Oz” Geist, Jude Seale, William Horton, Donnie Mingus, MTSU’s Daniels Center, and The Shepherd’s Center.

In 2022, TCDJHP achieved a remarkable milestone by raising over $1 million to support veterans, making it their most successful year to date. The organization continues to fulfill Charlie Daniels’ patriotic mission through various events, with the Charlie Daniels Patriot Awards serving as its most significant fundraiser.
