Sergent Lewis had no idea she would save a life on her way to work last week. But she did just that.
Lewis, who teaches at a Kentucky elementary school, opted to take a detour on Thursday morning because she was running late. Despite the fact that she was rushing, Lewis noticed something remarkably odd on that peaceful country road.”
“‘Did I just see that trash bag move?’ I thought as I passed it on the side of the road. I got closer and noticed it was moving; I had difficulty digesting that. I knew something was alive in that bag and needed to get it out.”
As Lewis’ car approaches, the imprisoned animal can be seen stumbling in her direction.
She remarked, “I cautiously tore open a corner and glanced inside the bag because it was tied up in a knot.” She discovered a puppy. ” He was clearly glad to see me. He began wagging his tail as soon as I opened it and let some light in.”
“He realized that everything was fine. It was difficult for me to accept that someone would do such a thing.”
Lewis decided to bring the puppy with her despite the fact that it had a collar but no tag indicating where he came from. (Considering she was still running late.)
She explained, “I just put him in my lap and drove to school. “I couldn’t just leave him in the car, so I brought him in. ‘You have a dog,’ the principal commented when she saw me. ‘ “It’s a long story, I said.”
Lewis asked her son to pick up the dog and bring him inside their home for protection. They eventually took him to the hospital to make sure he was okay after that heinous act of cruelty.
“We got him his immunizations,” she explained. “He appears to be happy and in good health.”
Nobody knows for sure if the dog was abandoned by its owner or if it was stolen and abandoned by someone else.
Lewis believes that, while investigators are looking into the incident, she is confident that it was done on purpose and that the dog would have died if she hadn’t been lucky enough to spot him in time.
“Who could treat any animal to such cruelty?” “No matter who you are, everyone loves puppies,” she said. “It is heartless to put an animal, regardless of species, in a garbage bag and dump it on the side of the road. They acted in that way with just the worst of motives.
Fortunately, the puppy was able to locate the right person to help him throughout his life, not only during that difficult period.
Lewis and her family have already formed a bond with the little dog she rescued despite the fact that it has only been a few days. His name, Hefty, gives away the circumstances of his accidental discovery.
Things are looking up for him now.
Because no one is likely to come forward to claim Hefty, Lewis and her family have chosen to give him a permanent home.
“Everyone loves the puppy,” according to Lewis, who continues, “With us, he will be appreciated and live in a happy environment. Simply put, I’m grateful that I was able to save him at the proper time and place.”
