Supatra, a Bangkok-born teenager, has been referred to as the “Chewbacca” of the real world due to her excessive hair. Despite facing negativity and hurtful nicknames such as “Wolf Girl” and “Monkey Face,” she remains brave and resilient.
Supatra is one of only fifty known individuals worldwide with Ambras Syndrome, a rare condition caused by a defective gene. This syndrome has only been documented in fifty cases since the Middle Ages.
At the age of eleven, Supatra broke the record for having the most hair of any girl in the world. Although she still lives with Ambras Syndrome, she has found love and is happily married. Supatra’s supportive husband plays a significant role in her life, and she speaks tenderly about their relationship.
Before the understanding of Ambras Syndrome, those affected were unfairly labeled as “werewolves.” Despite being called “Wolf Girl,” Supatra remains grateful for her life and finds joy in every moment.
During the Guinness World Records ceremony in Rome in 2010, Supatra expressed that she doesn’t feel any different from anyone else and has many friends at school. She believes that her hairiness makes her special. Becoming the hairiest girl in the world was an exhilarating experience for her.
Marco Frigatti, an on-screen judge at the competition, was captivated by Supatra’s presence. He described her as a remarkable and proud individual who desires to be treated like everyone else. Marco believes that it is society, not Supatra, that has the problem in treating her differently.
Despite facing challenges from her early years, including undergoing two operations at birth, Supatra remains cheerful and hopeful. She continues to pursue her education and particularly enjoys mathematics. Her ambition is to become a doctor so that she can help and treat others.
Growing up, Supatra had to navigate a society filled with racist prejudices, which made it difficult for her to make friends and be accepted. However, her perseverance paid off as her community began to embrace and support her.
Supatra’s story serves as a reminder that sad stories do not define a person’s entire journey. She is not only overcoming challenges but also starting a new chapter filled with love and acceptance.
Let’s share this incredible story of Supatra’s strength and resilience with our family and friends!
