The powerful and emotional official trailer for “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” has been released, and it is bound to pull at your heartstrings.
Christopher Reeve, who so many of us fondly remember as the man who brought Superman to life on the big screen during the ’70s and ’80s, faced a life-changing horse-riding accident in 1995 which left him paralyzed from the neck down.
“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, takes an intimate look into Reeve’s life and his lasting impact through the eyes of his three children.
His son, Matthew Reeve, offers a poignant memory in the trailer, saying, “We said goodbye … he gave this wave. That was the last time I saw him on his feet.”
The trailer reveals the vulnerable side of Reeve, including his haunting words, “I ruined my life and everybody else’s,” expressing sorrow over the simple moments he lost, like playing catch with his son, Will Reeve, who is now an ABC News correspondent, or sharing a loving moment with his late wife, Dana Reeve.
Dana passed away from lung cancer in 2006, yet her love and strength shine through in the documentary. Their daughter, Alexandra Reeve Givens, recalls a touching moment when her mother came to see Christopher, passionately declaring her love.
Christopher Reeve’s own reflection in the voiceover adds a deeply emotional layer, quoting Dana’s words: “You’re still you, and I love you.”
The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January and is set for a wider release in theaters across America on Sept. 21 and Sept. 25. Tickets are available through Fathom Events.
