JK Rowling Condemns Olympic Boxers Who Can’t Pass A DNA Test

Many people are tuning into the Olympics, and it’s not uncommon for emotions to run high. However, sometimes the emotions stirred are not just about the sports themselves.

In this year’s 2024 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee confirmed that two boxers were ineligible to compete in the world championships last year due to failing a gender eligibility test. These boxers, Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting and Algeria’s Imane Khelif, will be able to participate in the Olympics this time around.

Although they won’t be fighting each other, both competitors had “XY chromosomes” and were excluded from last year’s championship. This ruling by the International Olympic Committee has sparked a great deal of controversy as they decided to reverse the previous decision.

One notable individual who is outraged is JK Rowling, the famed author of the Harry Potter series. She took to Twitter to strongly criticize the 2024 Paris organizers.

She expressed: “What will it take to end this insanity? A female boxer left with life-altering injuries? A female boxer killed?”

Despite failing gender tests months ago, the Olympic Committee explained, “The PBU used the Tokyo 2020 boxing rules as a baseline to develop its regulations. These rules stem from the Rio 2016 games.”

They added, “The PBU endeavored to limit amendments to ensure consistency between Olympic Games and to minimize impact on athletes’ preparations.”

Due to failing a gender eligibility test, Lin Yu-ting was stripped of a bronze medal she won in March 2023. Similarly, Imane Khelif failed a testosterone level test and was disqualified in New Delhi.

It’s not just the Harry Potter author who is upset—many others, including notable names in boxing, have also voiced their criticism.

“It’s shocking that they were actually allowed to get this far. What is going on?” https://t.co/kOhsCBYUlb

“Bruh… these transgenders competing in women’s boxing at the Olympics…the Olympic committee allowing these male-born transgenders, it’s sickening. Letting these guys/girls who still look like men compete against women is disgusting.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how this situation unfolds.
