In our society, it’s unusual to witness a grown man cry. While women experience a number of discriminatory practices that men do not, I believe this is the most upsetting.
Come on, everyone has the right to shed a few tears without being condemned. Even big, strong talk show hosts need to let it all hang out once in a while!
To honor Steve Harvey’s birthday, the comedian’s staff decided it would be lovely to surprise the much-loved figure with something genuinely one-of-a-kind.
And, while Steve starts the video a little tiredly, claiming that he didn’t want any surprises during his public celebration, it’s clear that his coworkers couldn’t help themselves.
But, let’s be honest, the birthday boy doesn’t seem delighted with this abrupt break in his presentation. He then unenthusiastically reads the weird lines off the teleprompter, saying, “Calling in by satellite from Orlando. Let’s see who it is.”
Steve pauses for a bit when he sees the word “Orlando.” It’s clear that he’s trying to figure out who this man is. The normally cool and controlled talk show host bursts into tears as this guest’s face shows on the screen in front of him.
The man on television welcomes Steve warmly, looking directly towards the camera. “Hello, my name is Rich Liss and I’m calling to wish you a happy birthday,” the man says.
Steve is so taken aback by the unexpected arrival that he can’t look back at the TV. After a few moments, the host says, “Hey, man.” “Man, I love you.”
It’s a humiliating scene, yet the passion is so great that it’s impossible to turn away. After that, the camera pans out to reveal a woman standing by Rich’s side. Steve recognizes her as Becky, Rich’s wife.
So, who is Rich and Becky Liss to this crying talk show host? The three have a long history together, it turns out.
Steve used to work in the carpet cleaning business in Cleveland before becoming the famous comic that he is today. The Lisses gave him his first contract and even loaned him money when he first tried his hand at being a performer.
When Steve sees these two for the first time in years, he naturally wants to treat them as best he can, and boy is it special!
