Lou Dobbs, Conservative Talk Show Host, Dead at 78

Donald Trump was the first to announce Dobbs’ death on Thursday, July 18

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Lou Dobbs, the well-known conservative talk show host and political commentator, at the age of 78.

Former President Donald Trump broke the news on Thursday, July 18, via Truth Social, saying, “The Great Lou Dobbs has just passed away.”

“He understood the World, and what was ‘happening,’ better than others,” Trump wrote. “Lou was unique in so many ways, and loved our Country. Our warmest condolences to his wonderful wife, Debi, and family. He will be greatly missed!”

Shortly after, Lou’s social media accounts confirmed the sad news.

Lou Dobbs was most famous for hosting Lou Dobbs Tonight, which initially premiered as Moneyline on CNN. After it was renamed, he continued the show on Fox Business Network until February 2021.

In 2021, Dobbs launched The Great America Show on iHeart Radio and loudobbs.com. Interestingly, a new episode featuring a guest host was posted just three hours before his death was announced.

Throughout the years, Dobbs and Trump formed a close relationship. During Trump’s presidency, he and his administration members made frequent appearances on Dobbs’ show, per The Hill.

Trump often praised Dobbs and shared clips from his show on social media, according to reports from CNN.

Like Trump, Dobbs faced his share of controversy. He helped spread birtherism, the false theory about former President Barack Obama’s birthplace, and promoted claims about rigged voting machines affecting President Biden’s 2020 election win. Dobbs’ Fox show was cancelled shortly after a voting software company, Smartmatic, filed a lawsuit against the network. The case is still ongoing.

Fox News Media released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lou Dobbs. An incredible business mind with a gift for broadcasting, Lou helped pioneer cable news into a successful and influential industry. We are immensely grateful for his many contributions and send our heartfelt condolences to his family.”
