Ingrid Andress Apologizes for Viral National Anthem Performance as She Reveals She Was ‘Drunk’ and Is Going to Rehab

The country singer sparked buzz at the Home Run Derby on Monday. Andress later broke her silence, writing, “I’m checking myself into a facility. That was not me”

Ingrid Andress broke her silence Tuesday after her national anthem performance at the 2024 Home Run Derby the previous night caused a stir on social media.

On July 16, the “Wishful Drinking” singer revealed that she was drunk during the performance and is now seeking treatment.

“I’m not gonna bulls— y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night,” Andress, 32, shared in a statement on Instagram.

She continued, “I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is—I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid.”

In the comments, friends and fellow singer-songwriters showed their support for the “Seeing Someone Else” singer.

“I’m sending you love, Ingrid. Being this open takes a lot. You’ve got this. Hang in there. ❤️,” shared Carly Pearce.

Julia Michaels added: “Love you girl. I’m sorry you’re going through this and I’m sorry the world can be so cruel. Here for you xx”

Matt Stell called Andress a “badass,” while George Birge wrote “this takes guts.”

A rep for Andress had no additional comment.

After the four-time Grammy-nominated singer performed the national anthem at Texas’ Globe Life Field on July 15, baseball fans had much to say about it on social media. In several cases, users on X, formerly Twitter, compared it to Fergie’s equally talked-about rendition of the song at the 2018 NBA All-Star game.

“Fergie watching Ingrid Andress claim her crown for worst national anthem of all time,” one user wrote.

“Ingrid Andress has been placed on the 60-day IL with a torn esophagus,” another fan wrote next to a picture of the performance.

Before her national anthem performance, the “We’re Not Friends” singer sent a newsletter to fans where she wanted to “clear the air” about something she’d gone through.

“I had to part ways with some people who’ve helped me make a name for myself. It sent me into what my country America calls ‘depression’ but I’m not a doctor,” she confessed.

“I was at the lowest point I’ve ever been, so I decided to go back to where I grew up in Colorado. Sometimes all it takes is a few hours in your hometown to remember who you actually are, and you start to be proud of the person you’ve become,” Andress added. “I hope everyone has their own Colorado to go back to when they’re feeling lost.”

Hours before her national anthem performance, Andress also announced her new single “Colorado,” which is set for release on July 24.

“Thank you for being here for me even though I’ve been living under a rock. Y’all are the best, and I can’t wait to see you at my shows (stay tuned for more show announcements soon),” she wrote on Instagram, in part.
