An Ohio mother was tragically killed as she tried to stop two individuals from stealing her car with her 6-year-old son inside.

Alexa Stakely, a beloved speech pathologist for the Canal Winchester, Ohio, school district, sustained traumatic injuries after being hit by her SUV early on the morning of July 11, as reported by the Columbus Division of Police.

Alexa, who was a single mother, had just completed a shift at her second job as a waitress and was picking up her son from a babysitter’s home. She placed her son in her SUV and started the engine before running back to the house to retrieve something from the babysitter.

As Alexa was heading back to her vehicle, it began to back out, prompting her to chase after it. Unfortunately, she was struck by the SUV and thrown onto the pavement.

The suspects subsequently drove the SUV through an apartment complex before abandoning it with Alexa’s son still inside. Thankfully, the child was unharmed and found asleep inside the vehicle.

Authorities are actively searching for two male suspects who were seen fleeing the scene.

Sadly, Alexa was pronounced dead later that morning.

“Alexa was deeply passionate about children and the field of speech-language therapy,” expressed the Canal Winchester School District in a heartfelt Facebook post. “She was intelligent, compassionate, and dedicated to helping children develop their communication skills. Alexa was not only a wonderful mother, deeply devoted to her son, but also a remarkable professional who made a significant impact on the lives of students and their families. She will be profoundly missed by many in our community and beyond.”

Fondly known as “Ms. Alexa,” she primarily worked with preschoolers in the district, the post noted.
