The ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ actress and the ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum tied the knot in New York over the weekend
Olivia Munn and John Mulaney are married!
The actress, 44, and the Saturday Night Live alum, 41, who are parents to 2-year-old son Malcolm Hiệp, recently tied the knot.
The couple got married over the weekend in a simple, intimate ceremony at a friend’s home in New York state, a source close to Mulaney shares. Only their son and a witness were in attendance.
Sam Waterston, Munn’s co-star from The Newsroom, officiated.
The news comes four months after Munn opened up in March about her “terrifying” breast cancer diagnosis.
The X-Men: Apocalypse star was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in 2023 after tests revealed she had luminal B — a fast-moving, aggressive cancer — in both breasts.
“You realize cancer doesn’t care who you are; it doesn’t care if you have a baby or if you don’t have time,” she said in April. “It comes at you, and you have no choice but to face it head-on.”
Munn underwent a double mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery last fall. She had four surgeries over the span of 10 months, and in April 2024 also underwent a hysterectomy.
During an interview with Vogue in May, Mulaney praised Munn’s strength.
“Olivia and I have been through a lot of things together in the past couple years,” he told the publication. “Just side-by-side, supporting each other through anything. And as her guy, I felt both scared and protective. Even with Malcolm in her lap and me there holding her hand, she was going to be physically fighting this disease alone.”
Throughout her grueling treatment and recovery, Mulaney has been by her side.
“It would’ve felt like climbing an iceberg without him,” Munn shared. “I don’t think he had a moment to himself, between being an incredibly hands-on father and going to and from the hospital—taking Malcolm to the park, putting him to nap, driving to Cedars-Sinai, hanging out with me, going home, putting Malcolm to bed, coming back to me. And he did it all happily.”
The Baby J comedian also kept her smiling. “It’s the best except when you’re just out of surgery and it hurts to move or even laugh,” said Munn. “I made him leave the room a few times because he would make me laugh too hard.”
Munn and Mulaney’s relationship was first reported in May 2021. That September, Mulaney revealed during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers that he and Munn were expecting a baby together.
“In the spring, I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia,” he recalled. “I got into this relationship that’s been really beautiful with someone incredible. And we’re having a baby together. I was nervous when I was about to say the news!”
After the pregnancy reveal, a source close to the couple said that they were “extremely excited about the baby.” The source added, “They couldn’t be happier.”
Hosting Saturday Night Live in February 2022, Mulaney opened up about his sobriety and sweetly touched on the arrival of the couple’s then 3-month-old. “Life is a lot better and happier now,” he said. “He is a pretty cool guy for someone who can’t vote.”
In November 2022, the pair celebrated their son’s first birthday.
“Just got back from celebrating ONE YEAR of the most joyful baby being in this world and in our lives. My son, my joy. Happiest Birthday Malcolm Hiệp! I love you so so so much,” Munn captioned a set of adorable photos on Instagram of Malcolm, who was seated on Mulaney’s lap and covered head to toe in cake and frosting.
The following year Munn dedicated a sweet post on Instagram celebrating Mulaney in June. “We love you Dada 💞 Happy Father’s Day!” she wrote.
Earlier this year, Mulaney showered Munn with love in his own tribute on Instagram Stories.
“My son has the most incredible mommy and he knows it,” Mulaney wrote. “It’s the most loving and silliest relationship I’ve ever seen. Happy Mother’s Day, Liv.”
The couple have spent time on the East Coast this summer as Munn shoots the upcoming Apple TV+ series Your Friends and Neighbors. Mulaney, who wrapped his live pop-up Netflix show Everybody’s in L.A. in April, has continued his comedy tour.
“We’re a really strong little family,” Munn said in her April cover story. “We’re really just there for each other.”
